Size 4 White Crochet Hook

Ch 3, join with a sl st to form a ring. Row 1—Work 6 s c in ring. Row 2—Work 2 s c in each st (6 corners). Row 3—* 1 s c in each of the first 2 sts, 1 d c around the post of the 2nd st of previous row; repeat from * around row. Row 4—* 1 s c in each of the first 3 sts, l d c around the post of the d c of previous row (cable st); repeat from * around row. Continue increasing 1 st at each point as described above for 9 rows, then work as follows: skip 1 st, * work 2 tr c in next st, ch 2, 2 tr c in the same st, 1 tr c in next st; repeat from * for 1 row (4 patterns between each cable of previous row). Ch 4, turn, * 2 tr c in the first ch 2 of previous row, ch 2, 2 tr c in same st, working cable over cable of previous row; repeat from * once. Make a corresponding piece.

GUSSET—Ch 5, work back and forth in s c, taking back loop only, until gusset fits around base of bag and extends 9 in. on each side of opening for handle. Join to both sides of bag with a row of s c (see illustration).
