Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 50:
Small Ball:
Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats—1 ball of White, Ecru, or any color.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10.
Forty-nine ¾-inch bone rings.

Completed mat measures about 7 inches across center.

OUTER MOTIFS … Using 1 bone ring as center, place 6 more rings all around. Thread a needle with crochet cotton and join rings to center ring and to each other by working over and over rings 8 times at all adjacent points. Fasten each group of sts at back (wrong side) and pass thread along wrong side to next point to be joined. Fasten off securely. Attach ball of thread to an outer ring of motif. In ring work closely together * 6 s c, ch 5, sl st in top of last s c (p). Repeat from * 3 more times, 6 more s c. Without breaking thread, work into next 2 rings in same manner. Work 29 s c into each of next 3 rings. Sl st in 1st s c on 1st ring. Fasten off securely. Make 5 more motifs like this.

CENTER MOTIF … Join 7 rings as for outer motifs, but work 29 s c into each outer ring. Place outer motifs around center motif; with needle and thread, sew together 4 center s c's of adjacent rings.
