Caprice Collar Pattern #2303

Materials: Choose one of the following threads in size 40, White or Ecru:
Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, 1 ball.
J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, 1 ball.
J. & P. Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, 1 ball.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 11.

Starting at center, make a foundation strip as follows: Ch 35 (to measure about 2 inches). 1st row: D c in 5th ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 ch, d c in next ch. Repeat from * across (16 sps). Ch 4, turn. 2nd to 16th rows incl: * D c in next d c, ch 1. Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn. Break off.

Frills. 1st row: Attach thread to 1st sp of foundation, * ch 4, s c in same sp. Repeat from * until 7 loops are made. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: * S c in next loop, ch 5. Repeat from * across. Ch 6, turn. 3rd to 9th rows incl: Repeat 2nd row, but always make 1 ch more in each loop in each row. Ch 15 to turn after the 9th row. 10th row: Tr in 1st loop, * ch 8, s c in next loop, ch 8; into next loop make: tr, ch 5 and tr. Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn. 11th row: Into ch-5 sp make 2 tr, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook, thread over hook and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (thus a 3-tr cluster is made), * ch 4, 3 tr-cluster in same loop. Repeat from * 2 more times, ch 6, s c in next s c, ch 6, four 3-tr clusters in next ch-5 loop, and continue thus across. Ch 4, turn. 12th row: 3-tr cluster between 1st 2 clusters, ch 4; then, between next 2 clusters, make: 3 tr-clusters with ch-4 between each cluster, ch 4, cluster between next 2 clusters, ch 7, s c in next s c. Continue thus across. Ch 4, turn. 13th row: * Cluster in next sp, ch 8, sl st in 4th ch from hook (1 p made), ch 4, cluster in same place as last cluster, ch 4, p, ch 4. Repeat from * across 2 more times, cluster in next sp, ch 4, p, ch 4, cluster in same sp, 2 tr in next s c, cluster between next 2 clusters. Continue thus across. Break off.

Make 2 more frills, same as this, on this row—one at center, and one at corresponding position at opposite side. Then make 2 more frills as before in the 8th row of foundation sps, having frills come directly between those of previous row. Make another frill on last row of foundation, at center. Starch lightly and tack frills in place.
