EDGING 8337-A … First Motif … Starting at center, ch 6, join with sl st. 1st rnd: 12 s c in ring; join. 2nd rnd: * Ch 5, skip 1 s c, s c in next s c. Repeat from * around. 3rd rnd: In each loop make s c, half d c, 3 d c, half d c, s c (6 petals). Sl st in 1st s c of 1st petal. 4th rnd: * Ch 5, s c between s c's of next 2 petals. Repeat from * around. 5th rnd: Make a petal in each loop, having 5 d c instead of 3 d c in each petal; join. 6th rnd: * Ch 5, s c in 3rd st from hook (p). Repeat from * once more, ch 2, s c between s c's of next 2 petals (a p-loop). Make a p-loop over each petal. 7th rnd: * Ch 5, s c in 3rd st from hook. Repeat from * once more, ch 2, s c between p's of next loop (a p-loop). Make another loop like this, joining it with s c in next s c between petals. ** Ch 5, s c between p's of next loop, ch 5, s c in next s c between petals. Repeat from ** once more; now make 2 p-loops, ending with s c in s c between petals; make 4 ch-5 loops along remainder of rnd. Fasten off.

Second Motif … Work 1st 6 rnds as for first motif. 7th rnd: * Ch 2, ch-3 p, ch 1, s c between p's of 1st p-loop on 1st motif, ch 1, p, ch 2, s c between p's on 2nd motif, ch 2, p, ch 1, s c between p's of next p-loop on 1st motif, ch 1, p, ch 2, s c in next s c on 2nd motif, ch 5, s c between p's of next p-loop on 2nd motif, and complete rnd as before. Make motifs for desired length, joining in same manner.

Heading … Attach thread after 2nd p of 2nd loop at one short end, and work along one long side as follows: 1st row: Ch 10, d c in next loop, * ch 3, s c in next loop, ch 3, s c in next loop, ch 3, d c in next loop, ch 6, d tr before 1st p of next p-loop, d tr after p of next p-loop on next motif, ch 6, d c in next loop. Repeat from * across, ending with d tr before 1st p of p-loop on last motif. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: Ch-3 p, ch 2, s c in ch-6 loop, ** ch 2, ch-3 p, ch 2, s c in d c, * ch 2, ch-3 p, ch 2, s c in next s c. Repeat from * once more, ch 2, ch-3 p, ch 2, s c in next d c, ch 2, ch-3 p, s c in ch-6 loop, ch 2, ch-3 p, s c in next loop. Repeat from ** across. Fasten off.

INSERTION 8337-B … Work as for edging, making heading along both long sides (see illustration).
