Queen Victoria Tablecloth Pattern #7607

MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, size 20:
Small Ball:
J. & P. Coats—18 balls of White or Ecru,
or
Clark's O.N.T.—30 balls of White or Ecru.
Big Ball:
J. & P. Coats—10 balls of White or Ecru.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 8 or 9.

GAUGE: 4½ sps make 1 inch; 4½ rows make 1 inch.

Tea cloth measures about 46 inches in diameter, including fringe.

   Starting at bottom of chart, ch 74. 1st row: Dc in 8th ch from hook (sp made), * ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch (another sp made). Repeat from * across (23 sps in all). Ch 10, turn. 2nd row: Dc in 8th ch from hook, ch 2, dc in next dc (2 sps increased), * ch 2, dc in next dc (sp over sp made). Repeat from * 21 more times; ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch, ch 5, dc in same place as last dc, ch 5, turn, dc in 3rd st of previous ch-5 (2 sps increased). Ch 10, turn. 3rd row: Inc 2 sps, make 3 more sps, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc (bl over sp made), make 5 more bls, 9 sps, 6 bls, 3 sps, inc 2 more sps. Ch 7, turn. 4th row: Inc 1 sp, make 4 more sps, 1 bl, dc in next 9 dc (3 bls over 3 bls made); (ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc) 3 times (3 sps over 3 bls made); 1 bl, 7 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps, 4 bls, 4 sps, inc 1 sp, turn, sl st in 3 ch. Ch 41, do not turn.
   Entire chart shows slightly more than one quarter of the design (area marked off with dotted lines is the exact quarter). To work remainder of each row, start with sp or bl, as the case may be, marked "A" and work back to the beginning.
   Starting with 5th row, follow chart until 99th row is completed (when there are no incs, ch 5 to turn). Do not ch at end of 99th row. Turn. 100th row: Sl st across 1st sp and in next dc; ch 5, dc in next dc and follow chart to within last sp of previous row (1 sp decreased at each end). Ch 5, turn. Reverse chart and starting with row marked "B" follow chart back to 1st row. Fasten off. Block to measure about 39 inches in diameter.

FRINGE … Cut 6 strands of thread each 9 inches long. Double these strands, forming a loop. Pull loop through a sp on edge of tea cloth and draw ends of fringe through loop; pull tight. Make a fringe in each sp around edge. Trim evenly to 3½ inches.
