Materials: J. & P. Coats (2 balls) or Clark's O.N.T. (3 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 60, White. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10 or 11. 1 ball pearl button for fastening.

First Petal. Ch 25, turn. 1st row: 1 s c in 6th ch from hook, 1 s c in each ch to end of row. Ch 5 and s c on other side of foundation in each st to within 2 s c from end. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: 1 s c (always picking up only back loop of s c's) in each s c of previous row, 3 s c under ch-5 loop, ch 5, 3 s c under same loop, 1 s c in each s c to within 2 s c from end. Ch 5, turn. Repeat 2nd row until there are 20 ch-5 loops, ch 9, turn. Next row: * 1 s c in 7th s c from hook, ch 9, and repeat from * all around, making the s c's in the ch-5 loops at bottom sides, ending row with 1 s c under top ch-5 loop, ch 5, turn. Last row: 1 s c in first ch-9 loop, * ch 4, ch-5 p, ch 5, 1 s c in same place as last s c, ch 5, 1 s c in same place, (3 p's made) ch 4, s c under next ch-9 loop, repeat from * around. Break thread. Second Petal. Make this petal same as first petal to within last row. Last row: 1 s c in first ch-9 loop, ch 4, ch-5 p, ch 2, sl st in center p (at top) of first petal, * ch 2, s c back in same place as last s c on second petal, ch 5, s c in same place, ch 4, s c under next ch-9 loop of second petal, ch 4, ch-5 p, ch 2, sl st in center p of next 3-p group of first petal, repeat from * until 8 groups of p's (only on long sides of petals) are joined.

Work remainder of this row as before, but without joining to previous petal. Work 8 more petals and join each petal to previous one as second petal was joined to the first.

Heading. 1st row: Join thread at top corner of first petal, ch 9, make enough s c in every loop across so that work lies flat. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: * Skip 4 s c, 3 d c in next s c, ch 2, 3 d c in same s c, and repeat from * to end of row. Make a chain buttonloop at one end at neck and sew button on other end to correspond.
