J. & P. COATS “KNIT-CRO-SHEEN”: 1 ball each of No. 131 Fudge Brown, No. 49-A Killarney, No. 123-A Flamingo, No. 10-A Canary Yellow and No. 19 Shaded Yellows.

A piece of beige felt, 12 x 18 inches.

2 paste-on picture rings.

FLOWER POT … Starting at lower edge with Fudge Brown, ch 33. 1st row: H dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 2, turn. 2nd and 3rd rows: H dc in each h dc across. Ch 2, turn. 4th row: 2 h dc in first h dc, h dc in each h dc across to within last h dc, 2 h dc in last h dc—1 h dc increased at both ends of row. Ch 2, turn. Next 3 rows: Repeat 2nd row. Repeat last 4 rows until 17 rows have been completed. At end of last row ch 1, turn. 18th row: Sc in first st, * hold­ing back on hook the last loop of each tr, make 2 tr in next st, thread over and draw through all loops on hookpc st made; sc in next st. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. 19th row: H dc in next sc, * h dc in next pc st, h dc in next sc. Repeat from * across.  Ch 1, turn. 20th row: Repeat 18th row. Break off and fasten.

FIRST FLOWER-STEM … With Killarney, ch 76. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, h dc in next 21 ch—first short stem made; ch 25, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, h dc in next 22 ch, h dc in same ch where last h dc of first stem was made—2nd short stem made; ch 28, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, h dc in next 14 ch—3rd short stem; ch 23, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, h dc in next 20 ch and in same ch where last h dc of 3rd short stem was made—4th short stem; h dc in each remaining ch of the starting chain. Break off and fasten.

SECOND FLOWER-STEM … With Killarney, ch 60. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, h dc in next 26 ch—first short stem; ch 20, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, h dc in next 17 ch, h dc in same ch where last h dc of first short stem was made, h dc in each remaining ch. Break off and fasten.

THIRD FLOWER-STEM … With Killarney, ch 38. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, h dc in next 31 ch—first short stem; ch 38, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, h dc in next 35 ch, h dc in same ch where last h dc of first short stem was made, h dc in each remaining ch. Break off and fasten.

LEAF (Make 8) … With Killarney, ch 16. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in next 4 ch, in next ch make sl st, ch 4 and 2 tr; 2 tr in next ch, dc in next 5 ch, h dc in next ch, sc in next ch, in next ch make sl st, ch 1 and sl st; working along op­posite side of starting chain make sc in next ch, h dc in next ch, dc in next 5 ch, 2 tr in next ch, in next ch make 2 tr, ch 4 and sl st. Break off and fasten.

FLOWER A … Starting at center with Fudge Brown, ch 4. Join with sl st to form a ring. 1st rnd (wrong side): Ch 1, make 6 sc in ring. 2nd rnd: In each sc around make sc and pc st. Join with sl st to first sc. Break off and fasten. 3rd rnd (inner petals): Turn work and with right side facing, attach Canary Yellow to any sc, ch 1, sc in same place, * ch 3, holding this chain behind the pc st, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: In each ch-3 loop around make sc, h dc, 3 dc, h dc and sc. 5th rnd: * Sl st in first sc of next petal, ch 4, holding back on hook the last loop of each st, tr in next h dc, dc in next dc, dc in front loop of next dc, dc in next dc, tr in next h dc, thread over and draw through all 6 loops on hook, ch 2, working in 2nd ch from hook, insert hook between the loop and the single strand behind it and draw a loop through and also through loop on hook, ch 5, sl st in last sc of same petal. Repeat from * around. Break off and fasten. 6th rnd (outer petals): Holding petals forward, attach Flamingo to the free loop (back loop) of the center dc of the 4th rnd on any petal, ch 4, * sl st in the free loop of the corresponding dc on next petal, ch 4. Repeat from * around. 7th rnd: In first ch-4 loop make sl st, ch 2 and 7 h dc, in each remaining ch-4 loop make 8 h dc. Join to top of ch-2. 8th rnd: * Ch 8, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, h dc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, tr in next 2 ch, skip next 3 h dc on 7th rnd, sl st in next sc. Repeat from * around. Break off and fasten. Make another Flower A, starting with Shaded Yellows and using Flamingo for inner petals and Fudge Brown for outer petals. Make a third Flower A, starting with Canary Yellow and using Flamingo for inner petals and Shaded Yellows for outer petals.

FLOWER B … Starting at center with Flamingo, ch 6. Join with sl st to form a ring. 1st rnd (wrong side): Ch 1, make 8 sc in ring. 2nd rnd: Repeat 2nd rnd of Flower A. 3rd and 4th rnds: With Shaded Yellows, work as for 3rd and 4th rnds of Flower A. 5th rnd: * Sl st in first sc of next petal, sc in next h dc, h dc in next dc, 3 dc in front loop of next dc, h dc in next dc, sc in next h dc, sl st in next sc. Repeat from * around. 6th rnd (outer petals): Holding petals forward, ch 2, * sl st in the free loop (back loop) of the center dc of the 4th rnd on next petal, ch 4. Repeat from * around. 7th rnd: In each ch-4 loop around make h dc, 5 dc and h dc. Join with sl st to first h dc. 8th rnd: Ch 1, sc in joining, * h dc in next dc, dc in next dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, h dc in next dc, sc in next h dc, sc in first h dc of next petal. Repeat from * around. Join to first sc. Break off and fasten. Make a second Flower B, using Fudge Brown for center and Flamingo for petals.

FLOWER C … Starting with Shaded Yel­lows and using Fudge Brown for inner petals, work as for Flower A until 5 rnds have been completed. Break off and fasten. Make a second Flower C, using Flamingo for center and Canary Yellow for petals; make a third Flower C, using Fudge Brown for center and Shaded Yel­lows for petals.

BORDER (Make 2) … With Killarney, ch 4. 1st row: 3 dc in 4th ch from hook. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 3 dc in first dc. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd row until border measures 12 inches. Break off and fasten.
  With pinking shears, cut along the 4 edges. Sew the stems, flowers, leaves and flower pot onto the background as shown. Sew one border across the bottom, 1½ inches up from lower edge. Sew the other border across the top, 1 inch down from top edge. Cut 2 pieces of heavy card­board, 1½ by 12 inches. Paste cardboards on wrong side of hanging, ½ inch down from top edge and ½ inch up from lower edge. Paste 2 picture rings on upper cardboard.
