
Materials Required — AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY  "STAR" RUG YARN, ARTICLE 44
17-80 yd. Skeins  Cream. 
8-80 yd. Skeins  Rust. 
Steel Crochet  Hook No. H.
Rug is made with  a double strand of yarn and measures about 46½ x 28 inches.
For a smaller  rug use "STAR" Cotton Yarn, Article 75. 
  14-100 yd.  Skeins Cream. 
  7-100 yd. Skeins  Any Contrasting Color. 
With Cream, ch  44, 2 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 41 sts of ch, 3 s c in  end ch, working on opposite side of ch, work 1 s c in each st working 1 s c in  same space with 1st 2 s c, continue to work rounds without joining.
    2nd Round. 2 s c in each of the 5 sts at each end  and 1 s c in each s c on sides of work.
    3rd Round. 2 s c in each of the 6 sts at each end  and 1 s c in each s c on sides of work. 
    4th Round. 1 s c in each s c.
    5th Round. 1 s c in each s c on sides and increase  in every other s c of the 13 center sts at each end (7 increases at each end).
    6th Round. 1 s c in each s c on sides increasing 6  times at each end and spacing the increases evenly. 
    7th Round. 1 5 c in each s c increasing in every  other st at each end 8 times, sl st in each of the next 2 sts to even off  round, break Cream.
    8th Round. Attach Rust in 10th right hand st from  center and work 1 puff st in each s c. (Puff st: yarn over needle, insert in st  and pull loop up the length of a d c, yarn over needle, insert in same space  and pull loop up the same length, yarn over and pull through all loops on  needle but one, yarn over and pull through 2 loops) join in 1st puff st.
    9th Round. 1 puff st in each puff st, join, break  yarn.
    10th Round. Attach Cream and work 1 s c in each  puff st on sides, increasing in every 3rd st around each end, do not join this  or the following 6 rounds.
    11th Round. 1 s c in each s c on sides increasing  in every 3rd s c around each end.
    12th Round. 1 s c in each s c.
Work 4 more  rounds increasing a sufficient number of times at each end to keep work flat,  sl st in next 2 s c, break yarn.
17th Round. Attach Rust and work 1 puff st in each  s c, join, break yarn.
Next Round. Attach Cream and work 7 rounds in s c  working even on sides and increasing around each end as necessary to keep work flat,  sl st in next 2 s c to even off row, break yarn.
Next 2 Rounds. Attach Rust and work same as 8th  and 9th round, join, break yarn.
Next Round. Attach Cream and work 1 s c in each  puff st, then work 6 more rounds of s c increasing a sufficient number of times  at each end to keep work flat, break yarn. 
Fringe. With Cream, cut strands 7 inches long.  Take 2 strands, double them in half and loop through st, draw ends through loop  tightly. Repeat in each st all around.
