We suggest thread in sizes 10 to 70.
Make hairpin lace to measure slightly longer than desired length; ch 5, turn and work along one long side as follows: 1st row: Insert hook through next 5 loops at once and complete an s c, keeping the natural twist of loops throughout; ch 4, 2 tr in same place as s c was made, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook; thread over and draw through all loops on hook (a cluster). Ch 7, 3 tr in same place as last cluster was made, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook and complete as for previous cluster; in each 5-loop group across make cluster, ch 7 and cluster. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: In each ch-7 loop across make s c, half d c, 4 d c, ch 3, s c in 3rd ch from hook (p); 4 d c, half d c, and s c. Fasten off.
