Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY The Famous "PURITAN" STAR SPANGLED MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON, Article 40
6 balls for Bag.
1 ball each Green Spangle and Red Spangle for trim
- or -
"STAR" FAST HEAVY CROCHET MERCERIZED COTTON, Article 140
3 balls for Bag.
1 ball each Red and Emerald Green for trim.
¾ yd. hat wire.
Steel crochet hook No. 1.

If "Star" Fast Heavy Crochet Mercerized Cotton is used, work entire set with a single strand of thread. If The Famous "Puritan" Star Spangled Mercerized Crochet Cotton is used, work entire set with a double strand of thread.

BAG

With Silver Spangle or White work 1st 4 rounds same as hat.

5th Round: Working in s c increase in every 3rd st (32 s c).

6th and 7th Rounds: Increase in every 4th s c in each round (50 s c). Work 1 round even.

9th Round: Increase in every 5th st. Work 1 round even.

11th Round: Increase in every 3rd st. Work 2 rounds even.

14th Round: Increase in every 4th st. Work 2 rounds even.

17th Round: Increase in every 10th st. Work 1 round even, sl st in next st to even round.

19th Round: Working through back loop of sts only, work 1 s c in each s c, join in 1st s c. Without joining rounds and working through both loops of sts, work even in s c until bag measures 5 ¾ inches from 19th round, sl st in next st to even round.

BEADING: Ch 6, * skip 2 s c, tr c in next s c, ch 2, repeat from * all around, join in 4th st of ch.

Next Round: Ch 1, s c in same space, * 2 s c in next ch 2 mesh, s c in next tr c, repeat from * all around ending with 2 s c in last mesh, do not join.

Work 3 rounds even in s c, sl st in next st to even round.

Next Round: * Ch 3, skip 1 s c, sl st in next s c, repeat from * all around, cut thread.

DRAW STRING: With Silver Spangle or White ch 2, s c in 2nd st from hook, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row: S c in s c, ch 1, turn. Repeat the last row until draw string measures 20 inches, cut thread. Work another draw string in same manner. Lace through beading starting each string from opposite side. Tie ends together. Cut a cardboard to fit bottom. Cover with material if desired and place in bottom of bag. Trim with cherries and leaves same as on hat.
