Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 2 balls of color 70 Blue Jewel or Clark's O.N.T. Cronita, 3 balls. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 3.

Beginning at tip, ch 4, join with sl st to form ring. Ch 1. 1st rnd: 6 s c in ring. 2nd rnd: 2 s c in each s c. 3rd rnd: * 2 s c in next s c, s c in next s c, repeat from * around. 4th rnd: * S c in next s c, then insert hook at base of next s c, draw a loop through and work off as for a s c (hereafter this will be referred to as a long s c), repeat from * around. 5th rnd: * Long s c in next s c, s c in next long s c, repeat from * around. The entire hat is made by alternating s cs and long s cs—always being careful to place s cs in long s cs and long s cs in s cs of previous rnd. With a safety pin, mark the end of each rnd. 6th and 7th rnds: Work in pattern. 8th rnd: Work in pattern, making 4 increases at equal distances apart (to make an increase, make the next long s c in same place where the next long s c of previous rnd is made, then, s c in next s c, long s c at base of same s c of previous rnd, s c in next long s c, and continue with pattern). 9th and 10th rnds: Work in pattern straight. 11th rnd: Work in pattern, making 6 increases. Work 3 rnds straight. On next rnd, make 7 increases. Repeat the last 4 rnds 5 more times. Work straight until hat measures 5½ inches from tip to edge of hat. Break off. Turn the last 2 rnds over to the right side and sew in place.

Bow. Make a chain to measure 11 inches, turn. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook and s c in each ch st. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: * S c in next s c, long s c in next s c, repeat from * across, ending with a long s c. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 3rd row until piece measures 5 inches. Break off.

Tab. Ch 19, turn and work as for bow for 10 rows. Place tab to tip of hat and sew across the two short ends to hat, looping tab slightly. Pull bow through tab and tack it to hat at ends as illustrated.
