MATERIALS: Use one of the following threads in size 20, White or Ecru:
Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, 30 balls.
J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, 22 balls.
Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, 13 balls.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 9 or 10.
1 yd. linen, 36 inches wide.

GAUGE: 5 sps make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

Completed tea cloth measures about 54 inches square.

Starting at bottom of chart, make a chain 72 inches long (15 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: D c in 8th ch from hook; (ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch) 3 times—4 sps made; * d c in next 6 d c—2 bls made; 4 sps. Repeat from * 20 more times, 2 bls, 6 sps; (2 bls, 4 sps) 22 times. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: D c in next d c; (d c in next 2 ch, d c in next d c) twice—2 bls made; (4 sps, 2 bls) 21 times; 4 sps, 4 bls; (4 sps, 2 bls) 22 times, ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: 1 sp, 10 bls, 248 sps, 10 bls, 1 sp. Ch 5, turn. 4th row: 1 sp, ch 2, skip 2 d c, d c in next 4 d c, 4 sps, 4 bls, 100 sps, 3 bls, 42 sps, 3 bls, 100 sps, 4 bls, 4 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps. Ch 3, turn. Chart shows ¼ of design. To make second half of each row, repeat the first half, starting at center and working back. Starting at 5th row, follow chart until 60 rows are made. Ch 5, turn. 61st row: 17 sps, 1 bl, 11 sps, 3 bls, 1 sp, 6 bls, 6 sps, 4 bls, 10 sps, 1 bl. Ch 3, turn. Starting at 62nd row, follow chart to top; then reverse chart and work back to 62nd row incl. (149 short rows). Fasten off. Count 59 sps in from opposite side, attach thread to 4th d c of next bl and work to correspond, working back to 61st (not 62nd) row incl. (150 short rows). Do not break off, but ch 450 (15 ch sts to 1 inch) and complete 61st row at opposite side. Then follow chart to first row, working across chain. Fasten off.

   Cut linen into a square to fit in center of lace, allowing for narrow hem. Hem linen. Sew to lace.
