Shell Tie Back Pattern #301

Materials:
Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cot­ton, 1 ball; or J. & P. Coats Crochet Cord, 2 balls; or Boilfast Pearl Cotton, Size 5, 2 balls.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 2.

Use the thread double throughout. When using one ball, wind off part of the ball to double the thread.

1st row:1 d c in same st from which ch-4 started, ch 1, 1 d c in same st, ch 1, 1 d c in same st. Skip 2 sts, 1 d c in next, skip 2 sts, 1 d c in next, ch 1, 1 d c in same st, ch 1, 1 d c in same st, ch 1, 1 d c in same st. 2nd row: 1 d c in center sp of 4-dc group, ch 1, make 2 more d c with ch-1 between in same sp. Skip next sp, 2 d c in next sp, 2 d c in next sp, skip 1 sp, 4 d c with ch-1 between in next sp, ch 4, turn. 3rd row: 3 d c with ch-1 between in center sp of 4-dc group, 1 d c between center 4-dc of previous row, 4 d c with ch-1 between in sp between last 2 d c. Ch 4, turn. Repeat rows 2 and 3 alternately until tie back is desired length, then make a ring as before with 24 s c in ring, and fasten to this end to corre­spond with other end. Make a string or cord to fas­ten the two ends, finish off with crocheted balls.
