Medallion. 1st row: Ch 11, d c in 8th ch from hook, ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch, ch 5, turn (2 sps). 2nd row: D c in 1st d c, ch 2, d c in 3rd ch of ch-8, ch 10, turn (2 sps). 3rd row: D c in 8th ch from hook, ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in d c, ch 2, d c in next d c, ch 2, d c in 3rd ch of ch-5, ch 5, turn (4 sps). 4th row: Make 1 sp over each of next 4 sps. Ch 10, turn. 5th row: 6 sps, ch 5, turn. 6th row: 6 sps, ch 10, turn. 7th row: 8 sps, ch 5, turn. 8th row: 8 sps, ch 10, turn. 9th row: 10 sps, ch 5, turn. 10th row: 4 sps, 2 bls, 4 sps, ch 10, turn. 11th row: 5 sps, 4 bls, 3 sps, ch 5, turn. 12th row: 2 sps, 6 bls, 4 sps, ch 10, turn. 13th row: 6 sps, 6 bls, 2 sps, ch 5, turn. 14th row: 3 sps, 5 bls, 1 sp, 1 bl, 4 sps, ch 10, turn. 15th row: 7 sps, 1 bl, 1 sp, 4 bls, 3 sps, ch 5, turn. 16th row: 7 sps, 1 bl, 8 sps, ch 10, turn. 17th row: 6 sps, 4 bls, 1 sp, 1 bl, 6 sps, ch 5, turn. 18th row: 5 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps, 5 bls, 5 sps, ch 10, turn. 19th row: 6 sps, 6 bls, 3 sps, 1 bl, 4 sps, ch 5, turn. 20th row: 8 sps, 6 bls, 6 sps, ch 10, turn. 21st row: 9 sps, 4 bls, 5 sps, 2 bls, 2 sps, ch 5, turn. 22nd row: 2 sps, 2 bls, 6 sps, 2 bls, 10 sps, ch 10, turn. 23rd row: 23 sps, ch 5, turn. 24th row: 23 sps. Break off. Whip medallion in place. Cut linen away.

Edging. 1st row: S c closely along rolled edge of handkerchief, and continue along medallion, making 2 s c in each sp and 1 s c in each d c across. Join. 2nd row: Ch 5 (to count as d c and ch-2), * skip 2 s c, d c in next s c, ch 2. Repeat from * along row. In corner s c, make 2 d c with ch-5 between (this is an increase). Continue with pattern, making sp over sp along edge of medallion. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch-5 first made. 3rd row: Ch 5, * d c in next d c, ch 2. Repeat from * across, making sp over sp. In corner increase as for 2nd row, making 2 d c with ch-5 between in 3rd ch of corner ch-5. Continue along edge. Join. 4th row: Ch 9, * s c in 5th ch from hook (1 p made), d c in next d c, ch 6. Repeat from * along row. In 3rd ch of corner ch-5, make 2 d c with ch-1 and ch-5 p between. Continue with pattern. Join. Break off.
