Small Ball, size 30: 8 balls, or
Large Ball, size 30: 3 balls
Steel Crochet Hook No. 10 or 11.

GAUGE: 5 sps make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at bottom of chart, ch 50 (14 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: Dc in 8th ch from hook (sp made), * ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch (another sp made). Repeat from * across (15 sps in all). Ch 16, turn. 2nd row: Dc in 8th ch from hook, (ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch) twice; ch 2, dc in next dc (4 sps increased at beginning of row), ch 2, dc in next dc (sp made over sp). Continue to make sp over sp to end of row, ending with ch 2, sk 2 ch of turning ch, dc in next ch. Now ch 5, dc in same place as last dc, * turn, ch 5, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * 2 more times (4 sps increased at end of row). Ch 13, turn. 3rd row: Dc in 8th ch from hook, ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch, ch 2, dc in next dc (3 sps increased). Work 5 more sps, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc (bl made over sp) Work 3 more bls, 5 sps, 4 bls, 5 sps, then ch 5, dc in same place as last dc, * turn, ch 5, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * once more, turn, sl st in next 3 ch, ch 13. 4th row: Work 3 sps over the ch-13, work 5 more sps, 3 bls, dc in next 3 dc (bl made over bl), work 4 more bls, 3 sps, 8 bls, 5 sps, inc 3 sps.
   Starting with 5th row, follow chart to top. Chart shows one quarter of design. To make second half of each row, do not repeat center sp or bl, as the case may be, but work back. When piece reaches top row, do not repeat top row, but reverse the design by working back to the 1st row. Do not break off, but work sc all around, keeping work flat. Fasten off.
   Starch lightly and press.
