Boudoir Pillow Pattern

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (5 balls) or J. & P. Coats (4 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 20, White.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 8.
A satin pillow, about 10 x 15½ inches.

Starting at lower edge, ch 173 (to measure about 16½ inches), turn. 1st row: Tr in 5th ch from hook, tr in each ch across (170 tr, counting turning ch as 1 tr throughout work). Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Skip 1 tr, tr in next tr, * ch 3, skip 2 tr, tr in each of next 2 tr. Repeat from * 31 more times (32 sps). Tr in each of next 4 tr, ** ch 3, skip 2 tr, tr in each of next 2 tr. Repeat from ** across. Ch 4, turn. 3rd row: Skip 1 tr, tr in next tr, * ch 3, tr in each of next 2 tr. Repeat from * 7 more times. 2 tr in next ch-3 sp, tr in each of next 2 tr, ch 3, skip 2 tr, ** tr in each of next 2 tr, ch 3. Repeat from ** across, until 30 sps are made, 2 tr in next ch-3 sp, tr in each of next 2 tr. (Ch 3, tr in each of next 2 tr) twice. Ch 4, turn. Hereafter, follow chart from beginning of 4th row.

Frill. Attach thread at corner and work as follows: 1st rnd: Working along short side, ch 7, then make: * 3 tr with ch-3 between each tr, under each turning ch of each row across to corner. Then make 5 tr with ch-3 between each tr at corner and continue making tr in each tr with ch-3 between each tr across to next corner; make another corner as before. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st. 2nd rnd: Ch 4, tr in same place as sl st, * ch 3, 2 tr in next tr. Repeat from * around. Join. 3rd rnd: Ch 4 and make tr in each tr and ch 3 over each ch-3. Join. 4th rnd: S c in next sp, ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook (thus a p is made), s c in same sp, * ch 4, s c in next sp, p, s c in same sp. Repeat from * around. Join. Break off. Sew to top of pillow along edges within ruffle.
