Handkerchief Edging Pattern, No. 8193

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mer­cerized Crochet, size 80, 1 ball.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 13.
A handkerchief.

To begin, make a chain loosely to measure the length all around edges of handkerchief. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in next ch, * ch 2, skip 1 ch, d c in each of next 3 ch. Repeat from * across until row measures the length of one side of handkerchief. Then, for corner, make 3 d c, ch 5, 3 d c. Make other 3 sides to correspond. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sl st between 1st and 2nd d c. Ch 3 (to count as d c), d c between 2nd and 3rd d c, * ch 3, d c between 1st and 2nd d c of next 3 d c-group, d c between 2nd and 3rd d c. Repeat from * across, making ch 3, d c in ch-5, ch 3, at corners. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sl st in sp between 2-d c, ch 7, * d c between next 2-d c, ch 4. Repeat from * across, making d c in each corner sp with ch 4 between each d c. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: * S c in ch-4 sp, ch 3, s c in d c, ch 3. Repeat from * across. Break off.
