Knitting Bag Pattern

Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 3 balls of Forest Green and 3 balls of Ambergold.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 4.
2 ball-end wooden rods, each 11 inches long, for handles.
½ yd. lining material.

When completed, bag measures 13½ x 15 inches. Starting at top edge, with light color, make a chain 12½ inches long, turn. 1st row: S c in 4th ch from hook, * d c in next ch, s c in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: * S c in next d c, d c in next s c. Repeat from * across. Drop light color, attach dark color. Ch 2, turn. 3rd row: * D c in next s c, s c in next d c. Repeat from * across, Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Same as 2nd row. Drop dark color, pick up light color. Repeat these 4 rows, but when 3 stripes are made, increase 1 st at both ends of each row until row measures 15 inches across. Work straight until piece measures 14 inches in all. Break off. Make another piece same as this. Sew the 2 pieces together, leaving the side shaping open. Hem top of bag over rods, as in illustration.

Handles. With double thread — 1 strand of each color — ch 12, turn. 1st row: S c in 3rd ch from hook, s c in each ch across. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: S c in each s c across. Ch 2, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 20 inches. Break off. Fold handle lengthwise and sew edges together. Make another handle same as this. Sew handles to bag as in illus­tration. Line with lining material.
