Pot Holder Pattern

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton, 1 ball of Yellow.
Clark's O.N.T. Six Strand, 1 skein of Dk. Willow Green for embroidery.
Milward's steel crochet hook, No. 3.

Starting at top edge, with double thread, ch 40, turn. 1st row: Half d c in 3rd ch from hook, half d c in each ch across. Ch 2, turn. Hereafter pick up only the back loop of each half d c. 2nd row: 2 half d c in 1st half d c, half d c in each half d c across, 2 half d c in last half d c. Ch 2, turn. Repeat 2nd row until there are 53 half d c in the row. Then decrease 1 half d c at beginning of each row until 30 half d c remain (to decrease work off 2 half d c as 1 half d c). Break off. With double thread, work a row of s c all around edges. Break off. Make another piece same as this. With double thread of Dk. Willow Green, join the 2 pieces together by working a row of s c through the 2 thicknesses at upper edge only. Ch 2, turn. Next row: S c in each s c across, ch 17, s c in last s c. Ch 1, turn. Into ch-17, work a row of s c's closely together. Break off.

Embroidery. With double thread and about ½ inch above lower edge of pot holder, work the word "Pots" in cross stitch, each cross stitch to be 1 row in height and 2 half d c in width (see illustration).
