Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (3 balls) or J. & P. Coats (2 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 10.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6.

Starting at one end, ch 12, turn. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each of next 4 ch of foundation, 3 s c in next ch, s c in each of remaining 5 ch. Ch 2, turn. Hereafter, pick up only the back loop of each st. 2nd row: S c in each of 6 s c, 3 s c in next s c, s c in each of next 6 s c. Ch 2, turn. 3rd row: S c in each of 7 s c, 3 s c in next s c, s c in each of 7 s c. Ch 2, turn. Continue in this manner, increasing as before, until there are 16 s c on each side of the 3-s c group. Ch-1, turn. This completes one pattern. 13th row: Sl st in each of 12 s c, s c in each of next 5 s c, 3 s c in next s c, s c in each of next 5 s c. Ch 2, turn. Repeat from 2nd row until piece measures about 16½ inches. Next row: Do not break off. Sl st in each of 14 s c, ch 12, skip 8 s c, sl st in next s c, turn. Work 15 s c in ch-12 loop, sl st to fasten. Break off. Make another loop at opposite end to correspond.
