Boutonniere Pattern, No. 439

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, size 5, 1 ball each of Dk. Orange, Dk. Willow Green and White.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 9.

Petals: With Dk. Orange, starting at center, ch 20. Join with sl st to 1st ch made (1 petal). Make 8 more petals in the same way. Then sl st to base of 1st petal made. Break off.

Center: With White, ch 2, turn. Make 5 s c in 2nd ch from hook. Continue to work around, making 1 s c in each s c, and increasing when necessary to keep work flat (to increase make 2 s c in 1 sc). When center is large enough to cover the center of flower, break off and sew to center.

Stem: Wind Green around four fingers for 4 times, thus making 4 loops each about 3½ inches long. Tie ends securely. Make 1 s c in the 4 loops at one time to hold them together. Then over the 8 strands (the 4 loops) work a row of s c. At end of row, make 1 s c through the 4 loops (to prevent s c's from slipping off) as before, and continue working along other side of s c, making 1 sl st at base of each s c. Break off. Sew stem to center of daisy underneath. Make 1 more flower same as this. Make 3 white flowers with Dk, Orange centers. Starch and press to stiffen.
