Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero).

6½ yards dark green braid … A foam rubber cushion 15 x 39 x 3 inches.

GAUGE: 3 long and 2 short sc make 1 inch; 3 long sc rows make 1 inch.

Starting at short side, make a chain to reach tightly around narrow end of cushion, having an uneven number of chains. Join, being careful not to twist. 1st rnd: Sc in each ch around, do not join rnds. 2nd rnd: * Sc at base of next sc (long sc made), sc in back loop of next sc. Repeat from * around, ending with long sc. 3rd rnd: * Sc in back loop of next long sc, long sc at base of next sc. Repeat from * around. Continue to work in pattern until piece measures same length as cushion. Sl st in next 2 sts and break off.

END GUSSET (Make 2) … Starting at long side of row, make a chain 18 inches long. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until row measures 15 inches. Break off, do not turn. 2nd row: Attach thread to back loop of first sc, sc in same place, * long sc over next sc, sc in back loop of next sc. Repeat from * across. Break off, do not turn. 3rd row: Attach thread at base of first sc, long sc in same place, * sc in back loop of next long sc, long sc over next sc. Repeat from * across. Break off, do not turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece measures 3 inches deep.

Sew one end piece in place, insert pillow, sew other piece in place. Sew braid around edges on each side.
