Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7.
½ yd. narrow ribbon.
Starting at center of base, ch 8, join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 15 d c in ring, sl st in 3rd st of ch-3. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, * d c in next d c, ch 1. Repeat from * around, sl st under ch-3 (16 sps). 3rd rnd: Ch 3, d c in same place as sl st, * ch 1, 2 d c in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from * around, ch 1, sl st in 3rd st of ch-3. 4th rnd: Ch 3, d c in next d c, * 2 d c in next ch-1 sp, d c in next 2 d c. Repeat from * around; join. 5th and 6th rnds: Picking up only the back loop of each st, make d c in each d c around; join. 7th rnd: Ch 4, 2 tr in same place as sl st, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook; thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (cluster); * skip 3 d c, 2-tr cluster in next d c, ch 4, sl st in base of cluster, ch 4, 2 tr cluster in same place as sl st, skip 4 d c, 2-tr cluster in next d c, ch 4, sl st at base of cluster. Handle … 1st row: Attach thread to 3rd s c to right of p, s c in same place, ch 2, s c in next s c, ch 1, skip 1 s c, s c in p, ch 1, skip 1 s c, s c in next s c, ch 1, s c in next s c. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: * S c in next sp, ch 1. Repeat from * across, ending with ch-1, s c in turning ch. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 6 inches when stretched. Ch 1, turn. Skip 6 scallops of basket, sl st in 3rd st to right of p, ch 1, sl st back in next ch-1 of handle, ch 1, skip 1 s c of basket, sl st in next s c, ch 1, sl st in next ch-1 of handle, ch 1, sl st in p, ch 1, sl st in ch-1 of handle, ch 1, skip 1 s c, sl st in next s c, ch 1, sl st in turning ch of handle, ch 1, sl st in next s c of basket. Fasten off.
Starch or shellac basket; pull into shape and allow to dry thoroughly. Lace ribbon through loops at top, and tie ends in bow. Tie ribbon bow to handle.
